MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is how AI tools talk to the apps you use. Taskift has an MCP server built in, so Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor or VS Code can work your board directly: "What's overdue?", "Turn these notes into tasks", "Move WEB-12 to Review and tell the client it's ready."
1. Add an agent and copy its token
On the Team page, under AI agents & API tokens, click + Add agent. Name it after the tool, like "Claude Code" or "Cursor". The token panel shows ready-to-paste setup for each tool with your token already filled in.
Pick a read token if the agent should only look, or a write token if it should change things. Your first three agents are free, and annual plans get a fourth free.
2. Connect your tool
Claude Code: run this in a terminal, with your token in place of tkn_...
claude mcp add --transport http taskift https://app.taskift.com/api/mcp \
--header "Authorization: Bearer tkn_..."
Cursor: add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json
{
"mcpServers": {
"taskift": {
"url": "https://app.taskift.com/api/mcp",
"headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer tkn_..." }
}
}
}
VS Code and Claude Desktop setups are in the token panel and in our Connect AI tools (MCP) guide.
3. Ask it to work
The agent gets 22 tools: 10 that read (boards, tasks, the dashboard, reports, notes) and 12 that change things (create, update, move, comment, subtasks, dependencies, archive, notes). Try:
- "What's due this week across all my client projects?"
- "Create tasks from this meeting summary in the Sunny Bakery project."
- "Mark WEB-12 done and comment that the new homepage is live."

4. Stay in charge
Everything an agent does is recorded in the task's history under the agent's name, so you can see which tool made each change. A read token can't change anything. Each token is limited to 120 tool calls a minute, and you can revoke a token from the Team page in one click.
