Basecamp has been the default answer for agencies for twenty years, and for good reason: it's calm, simple and clients understand it. Taskift takes a different approach to the same job. Which one fits depends on how many projects you juggle at once and how many people need to see them.
The short version
- Pick Basecamp if you want messages, chat, docs and files living inside each project, and your team is big enough that a flat monthly price beats paying per person.
- Pick Taskift if you run many client projects at once and want to see all of them on one screen, with clients added for free and a timeline view for deadlines.

One board vs. one space per project
In Basecamp you open a project and everything about it is there. That's great when you work on one or two things at a time. When you're running eight client projects in the same week, it means clicking in and out of eight places to answer "what's due Friday?"
Taskift lays every project side by side on one board. Each project keeps its own color, tasks and people, but you see the whole week at once. Switch to List, Calendar or Gantt and it's still every project together.

What clients cost you
On Basecamp's capped plans, every person you add counts toward the limit, clients included. A five-person agency with two contacts at each of six clients needs room for 17 people, which on Basecamp means Pro Unlimited at $199 a month billed annually.
In Taskift, clients are free guests. You'd pay for your five teammates: $25 a month, billed annually. Each client sees only their own projects, and they can follow progress and comment without seeing anyone else's work.
Where Basecamp is the better fit
Basecamp is more than a task tracker. Message boards, group chat, docs and file storage all live inside each project, and its flat pricing gets cheaper per person the bigger your team gets. Past roughly 40 paid users, Basecamp's top plan costs less than Taskift. If your team mostly needs a place to talk, and tracking tasks across projects is secondary, Basecamp is hard to beat.
